I tried to enjoy it

But it was so damn cheesy i had to turn it off...no wonder it flopped at our Australian cinemas.

It was supposed to cheesy. It was a spoof of the 1960s beach party movies starring Franie Avalon and Annette Funicello. I would suggest starting with Beach Party (1963). I guess it's an American thing.

There are lots of pop cultural references. Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers (doing a Siskel and Ebert impression) and Barbera Billingsley from Leave it to Beaver; Bob Denver and Alan Hale Jr. from Gilligan's Island; Don Adams from Get Smart.

Performances by Fishbone (Jamaican Ska); Dick Dale (who was in all the 60's beach movies) w/Stevie Ray Vaughn; Pee Wee Herman flying on a surfboard. A very young Lori Loughlin who played Aunt Becky in Full House. The kid who played the son was the "I want my two dollars" kid from Better off Dead starring John Cusack.

Personally, I think it's one of the best movies ever to watched stoned. Really funny.
