Pope Francis' Favorite Film - 9/10

This movie is mentioned as at least one of Pope Francis' favorite films, and it really fits the man to a T. As one might expect, it is the most purely Christian movie ever made, or that at least I have seen. There are no two characters in cinematic history that more strongly espouse what it truly means to be a Christian living for the Lord, and not for the world, than the leads of this film.

The movie is so Christian that I imagine it is pretty much impossible for someone who isn't aware of the actual philosophy of the faith to understand it, it would be like watching a film in ancient Egyptian without subtitles. That is because it almost without any said theology, it doesn't explain why the sisters live the way they do, it just shows us their deeds. Without this knowledge, it's pretty much a small, uneventful movie, with very few locations, very few characters, and a plot that would seem entirely devout of tension at first glance. And yet, it is the utmost purest example of Christian piety and the Christian way of life, it is the most counter-cultural film you can possibly imagine audiences of this day and age viewing.

I had a funny thought at the end - just imagine this film being screened over Times Square in New York, above all the McDonalds, perfume ads, half naked bikini models, strip bars, fashion stores, alcohol ads, all of that consumerism...Western civilization would collapse on itself.

I would be extremely surprised if many people here at all have seen it or actually liked it, but if anyone ever wants to see a film about pure Christianity - it's this one right here.
