why do the nazis start calling out the non-jewish children's names and lining them up at the end?

Dr. Muller from the Gestapo isn't convinced that all the remaining children are non-Jewish; after all, he makes the following comments when they're lined up in the courtyard -
DR. MULLER: Are there any other Jews among you? Answer me! (Addressing one boy in particular) What about you? Sure you're not Jewish?I always got the impression that some of the children's names aroused Muller's suspicion (this would explain why he wanted to examine them more closely). It's ironic that Babinot was one of the children whose name was called, since he was one of the few students who spoke with disdain about Jews; he also came from a family that fully supported France's collaboration with the Nazis. share

Sure you're not Jewish?I think you're right. The Nazi's hatred ran so deep and so strong they were probably making sure they got anyone whose name may not have been typically Jewish or didn't sound Jewish but were at least partially Jewish.
The kid he questioned more closely fitted the Jewish stereotype in his facial appearance.

I suppose they could say the same thing you're saying, he looked Jewish, but weren't all the names already on the lists when they arrived?
Probably they had the names, but they were nothing if not thorough and lined the remaining ones up and read out their names as a way of taking stock and making sure no other Jews were slipping through the net. Making them stand against a wall also contained the implied threat that they might be shot.

That's for sure! The Nazis, like other similarly evil groups, took every opportunity to torture and try to break people down. It didn't matter that they were dealing with kids.
It's obvious what they did to those they considered their enemies but we cannot forget the evil they perpetrated on those they considered their own people too. They tapped into the darkest parts of their souls and somehow convinced them it was, not only acceptable but, necessary to treat other people the way they did. Even those who sat idly by and did nothing in the face of such evil were evil themselves.
