What do they call the priests?

This one's for French speakers. The kids always use a slang word to refer to the priests. It's something like "babace", but I can't really get it. Can anyone help?
Je vous remercie en avant.

The subtitles use the word monkies.

I'm not really a French speaker (I'm German), but in the German dubbed version it's "Pope" which is a derogatory term for "priest", which has a subtle atheistic aspect - it is often used by people who are not very religious or not at all, expressing their conceit for priests and the like.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but not all the kids use the word, it is mostly Francois - who seems to be the opposite of his little brother, at least in that respect, who himself wants to become a priest when he gets older.

"Babasse" also means "machine" in modern French slang.

"Les babasses" is a derogatory slang derived from "Les Papas" literally meaning "the Popes", which, in turn, was what Catholic priests were called by the Protestants (Huguenots) in France dating back to the 16th century.
France had a historic enmity between French Catholics and French Huguenots and some terms stayed through the centuries.
Even ironically when Catholics themselves (such as the Quentins) used the term on their own group.

I think the Dutch subtitles on the Lumière dvd translate that word as "zwartrokken", meaning "black skirts". But maybe that's just a creative solution by the translators.

I think they translated it as "monkeys" on my video's English subtitles.

"Chicken soup - with a *beep* straw."
