My new guilty pleasure...

So the American Ninja series doesn't live up to the high-power, high-caliber action flicks, but for some fun. This is it right here.

Michael Dudikoff and Steve James are no Gibson and Glover, but they sure can keep me entertained for 90 minutes.

BTW, I highly recommend creating a drinking game. Each time that SGT Jackson says something in the lines of beating someone up, take a drink.
Each time that Armstrong gets hit, take a drink. Guaranteed to have you drunk.

Right on, southphillygirl215! Michael Dudikoff and Steve James were damn cool together. You should check out "Avenging Force", too. They did that together between American Ninja 1 and 2.

Me too. :)

I have all of these old VHS tapes lying around my house, and American Ninja just happened to be one that I hadn't watched yet. I was expecting some sort of unwatchable travesty worth only a few good laughs, but I really enjoyed it.

It just has that perfect blend of hilariously bad dialogue, absurd plots (you have to admit that it's hard just finding a reason to put ninjas in any modern, real-life scenario), yet surprisingly good fight scenes, and most importantly - ninjas out the wazoo. Whether or not they got all the details right or not, I love all of the little tricks and gadgets they use- you can definitely tell the folks who made this are really into this stuff (or are at least collectors of exotic martial arts gear.)

If nothing else, I feel like I've shed a little of my cinematic snobbery from watching these. Thank you, American Ninja!
