Soundtrack Question

Does anyone know what song is playing over the end credits? It's wacky, circus type song with horns, etc. honking periodically. I have heard it used it cartoons over the years, but have no idea who does it. Spike Jones perhaps?

If you know, please post. Thanks!!

"Wait...where are you going? I was gonna make espresso!"

I too am looking for that song, and an interesting trivia bit is that the same song appears in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Listen for it not too long before the first meeting between Eddie and R.K. Maroon when Maroon is watching the cartoon over the editor's shoulder. Hopefully someone will be able to identify it for us.

Isn't it "Comedy Tonight?"

reply

If you mean the song titled "Comedy Tonight" from "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum"....no. That's not it.

I don't know what it is, either (one of the HBO channels just had the movie on, tonight). Maybe bumping this thread will result in an answer to this question from long ago...

Hi! I was going to ask this question, too! I was reading ALL the posts, & saw your question! By the way, "Wait...where are you going? I was gonna make espresso!" was from Young Frankenstein {"That's FrOnken-Steen."), but I don't know the actor who said this.

Eight divided by one-half equals four squared!

It was Gene Hackman (famed for "The Poseiden Adventure", "The French Connection", and many others) who spoke the Espresso line.

reply

WHAT?!? That was Gene Hackman? They did a GREAT job on make-up! I can usually tell from the eyes, face, or mannerisms! That was GOOD! Thank you for the information!

Eight divided by one-half equals four squared!

reply

You're welcome.

(I can never see that without wishing Hackman had done more comedy...)

It sounds like Spike Jones, but I think it's a National Lampoon song. After trying to find it on the web, I found a song called "Honk Honk! It's Wobbles the Goose" which is from the National Lampoon Radio Hour. Maybe this is it?

I, TOO, AM ON THIS QUEST! and it is a maddening one.......

the song appears in both "amazon women" and "roger rabbit", but is NOT listed in the credits of EITHER film (i actually downloaded the full version of "roger rabbit" just so i could check the actual credits since no site on the web and no soundtrack listing for the movie seemed to reference the song).

one other piece of the puzzle: while searching on the web, i found someone who claimed it was also the theme song of a show on a small illinois town network affiliate, the show was called "corky the clown".

the lack of proper crediting and the use in a low-budget clown show leads me to believe that this song is in the public domain. it may not even have a real title. so it may be extremely difficult to find.

anyone have any ideas?

the quest for this song is eating away at my humanity. please, someone, help!!!

reply

Mark, I think the composer of the song is Carl Stalling, but not positive.

I've been looking for this song for years. Has anyone tried to email the movie studios that made 'Amazon Women' and 'Roger Rabbit?' That's no guarantee of success, but they might surprise us.

The title of the song is "The Merry Go Round Broke Down".
Hear it sung on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOg2wL9W_Vs.

Just so we're all on the same page, this is the song in question:

I don't think this is 'The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down,' which is one of the familiar Warner Brothers cartoon opens.

The song is a library piece from Capital. We couldn't afford to pay for a REAL song. It probably has a title, but we just referred to it by it's library number. I worked on the movie and know this for a fact.

reply

Would you still happen to know the Capital library number? I have been looking for this tune for AGES.

After an extensive search on YouTube, the answer is THE WILD CLOWN. Composer is Henrik Nielsen, who not only wrote this, but also composed MARDI GRAS which was used as the JOKER JACKPOT WIN cue on THE JOKER'S WILD during its CBS run. WILD CLOWN was used in these two movies that were mentioned, as well as Dennis Allen's Clown Face segment on Sesame Street, the first Stretch Armstrong toy commerical, Ideal Games' Junkyard Game commercial, and the opening bars were heard in an early commercial for Alka Mints, in which we see a trio of diners wolfing their lunch using time lapse photography. As a sidenote, MARDI GRAS, was also in the 10 Clowns Sesame Street segment. The track is now under the ownership of Ole Georg music. They most likely absorbed Capitol Media Music, which originally owned it. Hope this helps.
