Get riled just thinking about it

I don't think I've ever seen a movie that left me more riled. I remember watching this movie on CBC years and years ago. I still burn with hatred toward the government that thought it had the right to break up a family and arrest and beat the father for trying to rescue his children from the system.

As well done as this movie was, just thinking about it now gets me riled up, so this is a movie I will probably avoid watching again for the sake of my blood pressure.

This movie illustrates what happens when children are considered subhuman by the government. They can be taken from their families on the flimsiest of pretext and subject to all kinds of abuse. This movie illustrates the need to allow children their rights and dignity as human beings.

I know this movie is Canadian, but the synopsis said it's about a California family. I could have sworn it was set in Quebec. Has the family or their descendants ever sued the government for rights violations?

Yeah...I remember watching it on TV when it first came out-and as the movie progressed, I too got very upset how the system was working or in this case-NOT WORKING!!! I felt bad for the father-but the kids were just horribly abused-especially the two older brothers!!!

I ordered the movie on amazon-I would really like to watch it again...I didn't realize this a true story-Mark Harmon did an EXCELLENT job portraying the father to these boys-he tried SO HARD to get them back!!!

Well...I've since watched it a few times since I received my copy from Amazon, and I had my tissues ready, and boy did I use alot from all the crying !!!

But after viewing it again-I have to say that Elmer (Mark) brought some of what happened on himself with that BAD TEMPER of his!!! (Not that I'm EXCUSING what the state agency did tearing the family apart!) But mostly with that social worker and those horrible people at the mental institutions-they pissed me off

Anyways...great but sad story/movie...
