I would've forced my way in

When the dad goes to get Richard, the oldest boy, out of the hospital and brings the paper with him that should've released him, the doctors tell him no because the boy is undergoing a medical procedure. The boy apparently is considered "mentally incapable" of having children so they are performing a vasectomy. The dad is unable to prevent the vasectomy so the boy will never have children. The dad ends up yelling at the doctor and telling him to go to hell as he crumples up the paper and tosses it on the ground. Yelling will not prevent the vasectomy. Had I been the dad I would've forced my way in. I would've forced my way in and gotten Richard out and prevented the vasectomy from occurring.

Unfortunately during that period of time...Medical profession thought they knew better for those who were not the wealthy elite.

Thats why you need to force your way in, in situations like that.

Your right on that, but most likely & unfortunatley, the father (Elmer played excellently by Mark Harmon) would have been arested for obstruction!

Weren't the film's events a vivid enough illustration as to what happens when you do break in?
The carpenter seems to have learnt his lesson the hard way - like after having been beaten up in the hospital and having his head banged on the tarmac in full view of his children let alone being thrown to jail in the end.
A tragic situation, really. And I don't believe things have changed a lot since.
