Brad gets one stitch for his stab wound on his foot

in what way that he felt that Chris (Shue) is gonna think he [Brad] is a total failure because the first gang fight he's ever going to be in only gets one stitch?

I don't understand how having one stitch would make an impression on someone

He wanted to appear manly due to his war wound, and since it turned out to be not much of a war wound, he was afraid he'd look like a wimp for making such a big deal over such an insignificant injury.
