Mrs. Kidder

Pamela Pitchford is playing Mrs. Kidder - at least she is credited. By there is no scene in which Mrs. Kidder appears! She is the cook of Rutherford Hall and Miss Marple knows her and we hear her name a few times but she's never on screen, so far as I know. Has anyone discoverd her in a scene or are her scenes deleted?

reply

She appears once, when Lucy first arrives at the house, she is introduced to Mrs Kidder before starting work on the kitchen.

My god, than there are scenes deleted in my version! Does she really say something?

reply

Lucy is taken down to the kitchens by Luther's daughter and meets Mrs Kidder. Mrs Kidder says "hello" etc and Lucy asks if she needs help; before Kidder can reply, Lucy starts to dry the dishes before Mrs Kidder goes home and Lucy cleans and reorganises the kitchen. After that, Kidder never re-appears.

I think it's terrible that the DVD is edited! I was watching the DVD only yesterday and was sure that the scene was missing.
I distinctly remembered that scene, because I thought it was so interesting psychologically - showing how clever Lucy was in handling the slovenly cook.
Also, the kitchen has seemed quite grubby and looked very elegant the next time we saw it................
What else has been removed without our being told?

I'm sure the scene is there in my DVD version! I have this version:

Mrs Kidder has a "slow" look on her face as Lucy charms her. It's great fun. She has far less to do than Joan Hickson's Mrs Kidder in the Rutherford Version.

I like it when Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple describes Joan Hickson's Mrs Kidder as "the younger generation" in Murder She Said.'
