What was Alfred trying to tell Emma?

What was Alfred trying to tell Emma about Dr. Quimper before Emma telling him they are getting married??

Dr Quimper missed some signs of cancer/tb/etc. when Alfred consulted him. Whether that was negligence or unlucky is not said. Anyway the point being because of that Alfred is now in the terminal stages of something, but doesn't tell Emma when he realises they are engaged.

Thank you. But it gives me the impression more like that Alfred knows or somehow suspects what Quimper did. I was hoping that would be explained in the end.

It was. Quimper did "miss it" on purpose, Miss Marple said as much.

Dr Quimper failed to diagnose his cancer apparently. it is a very odd sequence, because for some reason the writers of this episode decided to completely change alfred's character, and the manner of his death. i have no idea why.
