I remember watching this on VHS and thinking this was an incredibly long movie. I think the whole hostage part and the switch to Australia makes it feel like 2 different movies.
All I remember is that once the hostage part was over, I thought the movie was over and it kept going.
Seems long because there are 3 pretty big acts/themes in the movie. Comedy with Dundee in NY trying to adjust and settle in NY, then the kingpin kidnapping Sue and Dundee trying to outwit the dealers/cops and get Sue back, and then them going to Australia after getting Sue back so Dundee and Sue can hide and have the upper hand if they find them. I never thought the movie "kept going", I actually really liked when they went back to Australia and the movie was similar to the original in the beginning. I remember when watching the sequel and after Sue was rescued thought the movie was decent but missing something and it kind of would suck if it ended there, when it showed them going back to Australia I was relieved. If they did not go back to Australia and just made the NY scenes longer I don't think it would have been as good.

shareexactly, the people i've watched this with and including myself feel the same way, it comes off like a really long movie, but in a good way, i always thought that just when you think this movie is about to end it sets on for a new turn to his home for a whole new adventure. notice the actor in this with a very small part as he is seen only making a face expression at the restaurant as dundee swings on a rope and crashes through a window that has a much bigger part over a decade later in bedazzled, i happened to catch it cause the two movies aired on the same day, that scene also includes the funny part where the guy asks if he should go after and the chief hands him the rope.
