Not sure...

I'm watching S1 ep4 on Amazon currently. This show is one I've been meaning to watch for many years. I was too young for it when it came out, but I recall the late 1980s clearly and have always been interested in checking it out. Finally got round to it this week.

I'm finding it difficult. It seems naval-gazing, twee and introspective so far. I'm not a snob about tv. Yes, I love the gritty stuff like West Wing, Mad Men, Boardwalk and high-brow 1970s British period drama, but I also enjoyed Knots Landing and Melrose Place and the inimitable Dallas. I want characters that I can get into, and actual storylines, rather than shots of pampered people gazing into the middle-distance, being self indulgent.

I'm windering whether it just isn't for me. Is it worth pursuing?

I watched every episode, and S1 was my least favorite. In fact, weirdly, a lot of the show bugged me, but it did have some great moments. It was culturally significant in a lot of ways, but not always pleasant or comfortable. I got the most out of Nancy and Elliot's storyline which to me had the most to offer in terms of growth, pathos, and joy.
