The Show's Appreciation thread! Season 1

I'm watching it again.. Season 1 .. on DVD...

What can I say ... I love it .. and ya .. I am a man ..

I've seen the threads here .. the show sucks .. the men are wusses .. the women are bitchy .. talk talk talk talk ... HOW can ANYONE stand this drivel? etc.

I have to ask!

Is there ANYONE out there that is moved by this show?

Well .. I am ..

I love the articulate and eloquent writing of the show!

I love the actors who portrayed the character with such vivid honesty ..

I love the honesty of the themes ..

relationships, friendships, caring for a new born, divorce, losing a parent, running a business, raising a child, etc ..

I read some of the hate threads and I wonder .. "really? NOTHING in the show is something you can relate to?"

Please .. I beg you .. if YOU hate the show .. please don't post! .. it's not that I don't wanna hear it .. it's just .. that you can do that on other threads ..

I like this show. I appreciate the writing. I appreciate HOW it was made .. I appreciate the exceptional work of the actors on the show .. I like Michael, and Hope and Nancy and Elliot.. the 2 couples on the show ... and the third couple Micheal and Elliot .. the whole best friend thing .. I get it .. and Ellyn, and gawd .. Melissa .. !!!! .. and Gary .. etc..

sooo .. Season 1 ..

I felt compelled tonight .. I just watched .. "Business as Usual" .. where Micheal is struggling with his father's death (Leo) .. and ya ... I was moved ..

I could have started this with the "THERAPY" episode or even the pilot .. again moved ..

Come on .. FEAR, DREAD and ANXIETY as midgets on Micheal's back ?? you gotta love it! OR seeing HOPE watch her friends in a crib screaming for her attention ..

What a wonderful way of "seeing" what we all go thru .. !!

ok .. I am done .. gonna go watch "Account Receivable" now .. episode 16 .. from season 1 .. forgive me .. I HAD to share that .. well .. I love this show!

oh ya .. I have season 2 .. and I cant wait to see it again .. AND I hear that this week season 3 has come out .. gawd .. Nancy .. and the cancer story line .. how great is that!

Thanks for reading!

and oh ya .. I love the music on this show! Simply Brilliant!

all in all .. I think the show is inspiring! Well done to all involved! and thank you for making this wonderful show available on DVD!

Peace to you all!

I'm right there with ya, brother. This show was inspirational to me when it aired, and I just finished watching the entire series on Hulu Plus. It still holds us today. You're right, the acting is above par, the writing is great and the story lines keep you there with the characters. A lot of the actors got their directing chops on thirtysomething as well. Overall, a great TV show!

I'm a guy too and I love love love this show. I watched it every Tuesday night at
10! I have friends who think it's the most boring show there is. To me, every show is riveting. The acting is great. The sets are great. The story lines are great! I don't know who I liked most as characters but my top three were always Gary, Melissa and Ellen (who's raspy voice was always so sexy to me!) I bought each season on DVD the day it was released and I was never so happy to see a show on DVD as this one.

I was moved by the show 20 years ago and I still am. It's so hilarious to see how these yuppies existed without the internet, cell phones, GPS, iPads and iPods, even caller ID hadn't come out.

What strikes me also is the way nobody ever rang the doorbell or knocked at the Steadmans', just walked right in. Hope and Janey were alone all day in that house and she didn't even keep the doors locked.

I totally related, being of the same generation, I hope they all come back to show us how their lives turned out at 60 something.

I was in my late-teens, early-20s when this show first aired and LOVED it. I didn't have to be of that generation to identify with the human elements of the show.
It's funny, but watching it again on DVD in my 40s, I am more critical of it. Some parts really are a bit too precious and I find Hope more annoying than ever.
However: This was absolutely groundbreaking television at the time. I had never seen a show that was just about ... people. Not cops or lawyers or doctors ... just people. And I still love that about it. And boy, could it be emotionally devastating. Remember the horrific fight between Gary and Melissa and of course Gary's ultimate fate?
Almost thirty years later and we still have too many shows about cops and lawyers and doctors and not enough about real people. Bravo thirtysomething!
