Mike and the Mechanics and Timbuk3

Way to go douchebags.

Those guys are in the clear, they were not the reason for cancellation. It has been stated many times the pilot episode was not the problem.

reply

So the 2 hour pilot was the episode featuring "Silent Running" by Mike and the Mechanics" playing at a bar and a closeup of a guys hand flailing up and down?

reply

Which episode was the problem then?

reply

They never revealed this to protect the artists, but the Mechanics were cleared of this.

I think they hinted that it wasn't artists themselves, but the companies or whomever's responsible for legal technicalities.

reply

There's a track used in Episode 14 (I think).

It's only an instrumental, but it sounds very close to the style/synths used by another 80's artist who I just can't quite remember.

I keep listening to it, but just can't quite figure out what it's similar to.

It comes up at the part about halfway through where they walk out of the cabin.

Episode 20, the chick plays a track (sounds like a country song) from a jukebox and the guy says "not that one again".

What is that track?

reply

If memory serves, Against the wind by Bob Seger.

Oh, a lesson in not altering history from Mr "I'm my own Granpa"!

reply

Pretty sure the Seger song was definitely one of the issues - Shout Factory said they couldn't edit around it and still have the episodes makes sense. Pretty sure there was critical dialogue over the Seger songs.

Having watched the Pilot episode a couple times recently - I'm pretty sure if it was Mike & The Mechanics and Timbuk 3, if they really wanted to - they could have figured out a way to delete the scenes and really not lose much from the story.

(Not saying it would be easy or ideal - but I think it could be done.)

reply

I for one would not have battened an eye if the scenes were silent and with subtitles , but too late now I guess

reply

But then you'd have people demanding their money back. Nobody wants scenes silent with subtitles.

reply

Agreed. They also lose customers if they alter/delete the music, as was done for WKRP. So the options are to get raped by the songbook owners (who are NOT always the artists themselves, fellas), or to drop the project altogether. Given that this show had such a short run, they cannot be faulted to go for the latter.

reply

I heard that they have master tapes without the music and they lost them with Werewolf and only had the tapes with the music and when they have music in TV shows the DVD releases are included with the deal I should of DVR the episodes when Werewolf was on Chiller
