Why was the show canned?

A run of 3 years seems remarkably short for such a great series. Any idea why they pulled the plug on this show?

Well they did a lot in those four seasons. 'Tracey Takes On' also ended after four seasons too. Ask Tracey. :)

fox bought them out

If the network execs don't like the ratings, they will pull it. It's like Krusty the Klown said "Hey, this ain't art. It's business." I'm not taking their side, I'm just being a cynical jerk.

Fox has a great track record for canning good series because they don't return fantastic ratings. And the reason for the poor ratings: summed up by this illiterate comment

True also with out The simpsons and dr n!godatu shorts the shows well boring. sorry to the people who love the show for more then the cartoon shorts series. I am just saying what I think that kill the show off and that it
which (I think) is trying to say that the poster found the series unfunny - guess why. Hasn't two brain cells to rub together for warmth... The Tracey Ullman Show was an intelligent comedy, the type of English (US interpretation: "British") humour that Americans brought up on Laurel & Hardy and Dumb & Dumber just don't get. "How can it be funny if no-one trips and falls on his face?"

Well, Homer Simpson said it best;

"Man fall down. Funny."

Depressing, isn't it?

How can this show and a show like The Simpsons be served to TV audiences in the same half hour, yet be thought of in such totally different ways? She had the clips on her show - obviously, she knew they were funny. The humor must be relative in some way, right? And now The Simpsons is like a quarter of a century old and The Tracey Ullman Show barely made it four seasons. This just blows my mind.

I've got two good posts in me and I just wrote my third...

I liked the show and watched it. But in this case you really cant fault Fox for pulling it. After 4 seasons the ratings were still in the crapper. There were stories on how they were trying to get a bigger audience but the show still came up last in its time slot. I t was one of Foxes lowest rated series they had. They evan resorted to stunt casting with an appearance by Steven Spielberg, Chech Martin and others. it just was one of those shows that was to smart for the room. But like I said Fox did give it 4 yrs to catch an audience.

it was not canned by FOX. tracey ullman didn't want to do it anymore. she has repeatedly said in interviews that she thought there was nothing more she could do with it and it was entirely her decision to end it.
