Star Trek: 15 Reasons Jean-Luc Picard Is The Best Captain Ever

http://screenrant.com/star-trek-next-generation-jean-luc-picard-best-captain/

The eternal debate rages on throughout the universe: who is the best captain on Star Trek? Honestly, there are good arguments for all of them. Janeway, for example, defeated the Borg and brought her crew home from the Delta Quadrant, never giving up on them even after decades had passed. Kirk faced new situations no one in Starfleet had faced before, and you could claim that Archer did the same. Sisko balanced commanding a space station with being an Emissary to the Prophets.

But Captain Picard emerges as an extraordinary, exceptional leader every time, and the evidence stacks up, episode after episode. Whether he’s battling enemies or standing up for Federation ideals, he’s a natural born leader, earning the loyalty and trust of his crew, the respect of his enemies, and the confidence of Starfleet. So what is the magic formula that makes him so exemplary? Behold the answer to that, with 15 Reasons Jean-Luc Picard Is The Best Captain Ever.

reply

Picard is the best and will always be the best.

reply

Sure is!

Kirk was full of himself, Janeway was sharp... but Picard was wise.

reply

Whatever happened to Robert April?

reply

It's the British Accent.

reply

But, he's French...

reply

How's Patrick Stewart's French pronunciation, BTW? It sounds good to me, but what do I know.

And frankly, the fact that Picard is such a master of a second language that he speaks English with perfect received pronunciation makes him that much more AWESOME. As does the fact that he speaks it in Patrick Stewart's voice.

#15> He does make pretty good speeches, or is it his accent that makes it appear so?

#10> He doesn't put up with nonsense true, for the most part. In the example episode, it shows the episode with the devilish Ardra. Many have questioned why Picard was so convinced she wasn't omnipotent like Q or the Dowd but must be a fraud? Because she had a decent rack and swung her backside like Madonna in heat? Besides, Kirk would have boinked her and then defeated her, even if she wasn't green...

#6> He Respects The Prime Directive And Federation Ideals.. for the most part yes. Exemptions must be made of course and every captain has had to walk and sometimes cross that line, but this is where Picard becomes the worst captain ever. In The Pegasus, Picard discovers the Feds have developed a phased cloak - technology way beyond pretty much anyone else despite violating the treaty the Feds signed with the Romulans. Picard is disgusted and upset the Feds violated the treaty by developing this phasing cloak in direct conflict with the treaty.

Picard is correct to be angry and morally outraged over the treaty violation, but this is where he blunders. The cloak was already developed into a working prototype and the Feds are skunks for doing so, but Picard commits sedition by exposing the Federation's treachery to it's enemy by decloaking directly in front of the Romulans. The treachery was already done - what benefit to the Federation could there be for revealing it? What will the already distrusting Romulans think of the Federation now? Will the Romulans now consider the treaty null (they'd have that right) and exploit it's cancellation to their advantage? Would the Romulans ever sign a treaty with the Federation again, and really, why would they?

What Picard should have done is return the cloak to the Federation and *threaten* to expose the violation if the cloak project isn't mothballed until such time when it might save the Federation. Seems to me it would be handy in a full scale Borg attack...

I do not know all Star Trek capitans, but I guess it must be very difficult to beat Jean-Luc Picard...

reply

I think I'd love to see every instance on the show of Picard saying "Make it so", "Proceed", "Come!" and "Engage" mashed up into one long clip. That would make my day.
