I have heard him make several remarks that belittle his acting skills. Saying that he went into directing because he wasn't that good of an actor and that he wasn't even the best actor in his house. What do you think about his acting?
Generally, I think Frakes is a good actor, and there have been times he's delivered some good performances (Frame of Mind, for instance). He's no Sir Lawrence Olivier, or Ed Norton, or Robert de Niro, but he's good. I've seen him in performances where he was forced to show some range, but I can see why he might think he's not as good as some might believe, because by and large, especially prior to TNG, he was put in roles that didn't require him to do much. Falcon Crest had him do what any other soap opera male actor could've done, and he's pretty much forgettable in the mini-series North and South (usually I have to tell people he was in that show).
At the same time, I think he's probably better than he thinks he is. Sometimes, an actor just needs the right role to come along. Bryan Cranston was more or less unheard of by most people who weren't Malcolm in the Middle fans, and it was Walter White from Breaking Bad that launched him into the A-List realms.
I kinda liked Frakes, but you got the idea he was eye candy. Never thought about whether he was good or bad. Thought he did a very good job in The Best of Both Worlds. 👏🙌
Didn't Marina Sirtis have to do a sex scene with Frakes in one of the TNG films?
"That poor woman" is all I could think...
(and to think, I bet she even had the human decency to brush her teeth for him before filming that scene...)
(funny fact - they actually digitally removed Frakes' back hair, as he refused to actually shave it off. Won't even manscape for the ladies. Obvious homer...)
Lol. Come off it!! They digitally removed his back hair!!! It was the 90's. I'm sure the show was done on film, not digital. I think that was made up. Also, not every man has back hair!!!!
