Brilliant

What a great year 1987 was for British film and tv! The Beiderbecke Tapes, Comrades, Withnail And I, Wish You Were Here, Hope And Glory, Prick Up Your Ears, Fortunes Of War, Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, Blackadder The Third, Maurice, A Month In The Country, The Short and Curlies, Personal Services, The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne, Road, Christine, Tutti Frutti, Two Of Us and... (cue drum roll).. Porterhouse Blue.

A masterful dramatisation by Malcolm Bradbury of Tom Sharpe's book, Porterhouse Blue is essential viewing.

Took me back to my Cambridge days!

Not sure about the poorly recorded college bell! Good to see the series brought across how annoying the damn bells are.

My favourite scene is the college celebration dinner near the start when the undergraduates are rowing and throwing the bones in Hall

I never saw that in Cambridge in the 90s but I like to think it has happened. Probably somewhere like Magdalene :)

My sister was up at Cambridge when the series was made. It was a little bit exaggerated as I don't recall seeing quite as many undergraduates in tweed jackets, corduroy trousers, ties etc back then. There were some, but not the majority. Most dressed like Carrington and his assistant, eg, flashy 1980s leisurewear.

I first watched the series 25 years ago, and rewatched it a few days ago - it was just as good as I remembered!
