Age difference between first and second episodes.

She looks a lot younger in the first episode.
I understand the pilot has to get shopped around, but other than Seinfeld, most shows are picked up quick or totally forgotten about.

I might be wrong, but she just seems much older the day after(second episode) her 13th birthday (pilot episode).

They may have had a second go around in shopping the pilot.

That's what happened with the Brady Bunch. The pilot was shot in 1968, which is why they look extremely young compared to the rest of the first season.
