should they revamp this or leave it as is

Just an idea

Which came first the virus or the anti-virus!

I would love to see more Max Headroom, but what do you mean by "revamp"? Do you mean update the existing stories, re-do them with today's technology, or start filming brand new stories?

This show was SO far ahead of its time, I think it would go over great today. As far as I know, all of the major actors are still living, and Max could be done today with computer animation, rather than Frewer in heavy latex & make-up. And with today's retro craze, I think it would be a natural.

The best way to gauge interest would be to make a new Max Coke commercial with Frewer's voice-over, and air it during the Super Bowl.

That would be an awesome idea.

Coca-Cola will never allow it (they're STILL trying to forget the expensive debacle that was "New Coke").

You may be right, but consider the following:

1) No one under the age of 35 even remembers New Coke.
2) For those of us who do remember New Coke, a new Max commercial could be an attention-getting ironic jab at the past: a smirking "ha-ha, can you believe we actually did that?"
3) Was the New Coke campaign really a debacle? Naturally the product didn't last (how long can something be new?), but it did gain the company a lot of name and brand recognition. It's hard to believe now, but sentimentalists were actually hoarding "old" Coke, and a lot of attention was drawn with the "old" vs "new" debates.

Good point. 

Is staid, old, corporate Coca-Cola even CAPABLE of irony? 

Pepsi, OTOH, might just try it to get back at Coca-Cola ("Don't say the C-Word!").

This is to say nothing of a company like Monster Energy Drinks -- a company that prides itself on being hip, edgy, and cutting-edge -- trying it.

I agree, bring back Max. Update him to travel around the internet.

reply

Not sure how exactly they do it unless they build up too the point when he is release world wide after getting him off an old 20mb hard drive and him having too adapt to the modern world. Not sure who would play him either.

Just finished watching the series and I think it could be re-done. The big fault (for me) was that the show wasn't actually about Max, but Edison - all Max did, most of the time, was throw in comments that were often amusing, but also, unfortunately, sometimes pretty lame. There were perhaps two or three episodes where Max actually made a contribution to the plot itself, but, apart from those, you could mostly have taken out his sequences without damaging the main plot. However, if you remake it and set it in 2014, you could let him loose over the Internet and he could then play a much more active part. Keep the dystopian setting, the dominance of 'entertainment' channels, etc, and it would work pretty well.

this is one remake that I could get behind. I'd love to see a movie of this. Everything about this series holds today even more so than when it originally aired.

Totally support the Superbowl Coke commercial idea. Hell, tie coke (maybe both kinds of coke) in with iPhone X and Max and see how the market reacts. We may find ourselves MORE than 15 minutes into the future.

This show was 'WAY ahead of its time.

New coke was a marketing ploy...

Edit:sorry..didn't mean to reply to your post...

It raised awareness about Coca Cola Classic, essentially.

reply

Yeah...although at the time you didn't know it was classic😉 Kind of a don't know what you got til it's gone type thing. And before anybody points out that Coca Cola has always maintained this was not a ploy...obviously I am aware...I just don't believe them...

reply

They still won't use the true original Coca Cola recipe.

reply

Hilarious! Just watched some televised, conspiracy theory, documentary show that was saying that there is still coke in your coke...didn't finish watching it however, so I couldn't tell how compelling it was...I'm thinking not too terribly credible...but back in the day Coca Cola...I bet was incredible! Disclaimer...just say no kids!!!

reply

If you didn't finish watching because you fell asleep, and you were drinking Coca Cola, I'd say the theory loses credibility.

'so OK. The site is imperfect, just like life.
