Jefferson brought out best in Marcy.

I know some will disagree with me. But yes Jefferson was lazy but he did stay faithful to marcy despite girls hitting on him. Plus her and steve where too much a like he was materialistic like her. Jefferson balanced her out by her lighter side of life . He got her to loosen up. Plus I noticed she became less materialistic money hungry. Released there more ot life then money. In the episode it was one of the few sweet moments of the show the episode where jefferson works at car wash she sees steve look down on him then she defends him releasing she was a snob being with steve and there is so much more to people then their job. Jefferson almost cries too in the episode.

I disagree. With Steve, Marcy was generally considerate, rational, forward thinking, down to earth (even if a little too idealistic) and more likable overall. With Jefferson, Marcy became harsh, scheming, too OTT, butch, domineering, and generally unlikable. She went from being grounded and decent with Steve to being pushy and crass with Jefferson. Plus during the Jefferson years, Amanda Bearse's lesbianism began taking over her overall image, almost to the point of it seeping into the character enough to where I didn't buy her attraction to men anymore...which made the exploitation of Jefferson's good looks seem wasted, and Marcy's "lust" seem phony. Meh. It just didn't play out good, IMO.

The show had to go on. David Garrison wasn't fired; he made the decision to leave. So ultimately I guess you can't be mad at the introduction of Jefferson as his replacement, but overall I enjoyed Marcy and the show much less after he was gone. His and Marcy's "straight"-man shtick kinda sorta gave the show so balance, and made the silliness of the other characters stand out even more. With Jefferson, everything changed, everyone was too silly to the point where nothing stood out. MWC became more of a parody of itself. Like watching a SNL sketch than a real sitcom.

Jefferson turned Marcy into an ugly lezbo.

marcy loosened up a bit with jefferson became less uptight. the show did change but still became funny. it became less like roseanne a realistic working class family more like live action simpsons still funny. i notice with marcy she kind of adapts to her surroundings hanging out with jefferson she became more free spirit i guess she is easily influences. same can be said for cheers when its cast member left. with diane left it became over the top and slapstick there was not straight man around ot balance out characters. plus sam went from a confident street smart guy to a dumb clumsy jock still wominizer but he became bumling he was not woody or coach dumb more naive typical pretty boy not smart.

Jefferson turned Marcy into an ugly lezbo.

That wasn't Jefferson who did that lol. That was Amanda Bearse.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

mean comment .i noticed marcy did not look down on the bundys as much with Jefferson. she came out of her shell embraced being middle class instead obsessing over keeping up with the Jones.

reply

Um, no its not a mean comment. Its the truth.

It was common knowledge in the 1990s that Amanda Bearse herself INSISTED on 'manning' her character up.
The show agreed to go along with it, probably because she was not only an important character but was also directing some of the episodes by that time.

but referring to her as ugly lezbo regarded is offensive.

reply

Maybe so but you gotta admit that the Marcy from the first few seasons was cute and by the time the series ended she became her true self: a manly lesbian. Poor Ted McGinley...

reply

GRanted she was more attractive early season but she was still beautiful later seasons

reply

I didn't refer to her as that, the poster above my original comment did.

And yes, it may be mean in a sense....but she certainly was NOT attractive or feminine at all later in the show.
She also gained a good bit of weight.

A former neighbor stated Jefferson once tried to kill his wife, I don't recall that.

reply

No heard of it . but Jefferson truly loved her made see there is more life to money .

Ironically actor who played steve played character similar to jefferson 3 years before married called its your move. he played a charming guy drifting away not really working. He dates this single mom and her son has mixture of buds personality and steve. HE is schmering con man coming up with get rich schemes like bud and had steve overachieving money hungry personality obsessing over getting rich being upper class.

reply

It was created by same guys from married with children thatr failed sitcom lead to married with children. where he played a total opposiote of its your move. I partially think ironcally jefferson character was inspired by david garrsion character in its your move both guy get through life through charm not working. It has been hinted that before he dated the guys mom he was a charmer.

true. she did not fully change she was more lossen up with jefferson she even started accepting the bundys more as equals. it seemed she had wild side in highschool but meeting steve he convinced to be more button down. there where evb episodes that joked steve put more concern about his car then her. in the episode where motel tapes them having sex steve seemed more concerned aobut getting money then his wife diginitry. in the episode where jefferson work at car wash marcy was sick of steve insults and admitted she did not care if jefferson did not have a job she still lvoed him. watched how arrogant steve acts pretneding to be hotshot business makes her relize all along money does say anything about person well being . that episode had its breift moments of sentiments. jefferson did show he truly cared about marcy despite his lazy ways . that episode made me respect marcy even more she relized that making lots of money is not the end goal to life theres more to life then that. i have to say even though steve was kind of always stuck up in old episode he still had more class like marcy there where even episodes where lossend up and viewed bundy as equals not looked down on them. although marcy always been less stuck up then him. they really turned steve into a weasley jerk not the uptight smart neurotic good natured guy he was in early seasons. he was even pathetic stealing egg blackmailing his boss to get high job even pretending to be rich when he was chaufer. he was still funny but part me feels the writers where upset david garrison left went to a tv they made him transtion from main cast to villian they even trashed his character few times like they trashing actors. marcy even said he wont have career leaaving her. like writers saying david wont have career leaving show

I liked her combo with Steve much better. With Jefferson, her character became all about controlling everyone. I agree she became less materialistic, but her character became less likeable.

Steve was great while he was a regular. His character also changed when he started appearing as a guest

A good death is its own reward

reply

I agree. The Steve fans will obviously disagree, but her character changed for the best when she got with Jefferson. As funny as her innocent arguments with Steve were, she was never more fun to watch than when she loosened up with Jefferson.

You want something corny? You got it!

reply

I disagree. I liked Jefferson, but with him, Marcy is always angry, upset and rude (epsecially in season 11). I wonder why didn't she get pregnant with Jefferson.. I think it's because she was waiting for him to find a job. Even, Jefferson is just lazy as Peggy and would leave her if she had a little money.

reply

She probably didn't want a child.

i loved Jefferson & Marcy !
