DVD Complaint!

This is a British series. It has British actors. Produced at a British studio.

So why on Earth is it only available on Amazon as Region 1? And it's not just this. There are lots of BBC productions only available in Region 1 as well.

Is anybody else annoyed by this?

reply

This is a Jim Henson production, not a British series. It was made for and shown on American TV. That is why it is in region 1.

But I think it should be released on DVD in all regions. Everyone should have it because it is wonderful!!
Or even better, not having any "regions" at all. it is stupid.

Or you could just get a multiregional DVD player. Do British and Americans not have them? You guys are forever crying about regional codes. In Australia you can pick up a multiregional player for like 50 bucks. If it's a question of laziness, just download the torrent.

And don't forget many players can be hacked to be region free and there are region free player software for PC.

reply

Yeah and you don't even really need region free software for the PC. You can just change the region code settings in WMP at anytime.

There are imposed limits on how many times you can change the region code on a drive before it locks. And it's more than just region code; it's differences in format. You can't play NTSC discs on PAL equipment unless you have something that can convert the signal.

I bought mine with dutch subtitles (which you can switch off.) Region 2

Strange, because other Henson series, like the brilliant Farscape, were never available in that format.

Like... I have a player that is designed to play computer media, therefore is designed to resize and reformat the image. I unlocked it to make it region free, and now it can play DVDs from any region, and display them on my NTSC television.

Other than that, you might be able to get a player for the region you need, then an inline converter box that can convert the signal between the player and the television.

My player, btw, is an older machine, a KISS DP-500. Even though it's older, it can play damn near anything that's put into it, and I highly recommend it for this kind of application. It would come region-locked, but a simple internet search can reveal the key that'll unlock it.

I bought a cheap ($40) phillips dvd player at wal-mart which was easily
changed to region free AND plays both PAL and NTSC. Many phillips
players can handle both formats, it wasn't even advertised as such
on the box. To make it region free I simply typed in the code which
I got off the internet.

According to wikipedia it is a British production, filmed entirely in the UK and would explain why it's full of British actors and not American and according to IMDB it was first aired in the UK on the 15 May 1988 and then in the US on 28th April 1989 but Jim Henson's company is American and I doubt this series would be nowhere near as good as it is without their involvement.
