Do they ever actually mention Indiana in any of the episodes?

I mean how hard would it be to pretend that JFK is right next door to Bayside? None of the episodes I have seen of GMMB have I heard them mention where the school is located.

reply

yes, they mention they're in indiana in gmmb..

In which episode of Good Morning, Miss Bliss do they mention that they are in Indiana?

reply

in the very first episode "summer love", zack's summer girlfriend karen tells him "you can take me into indianapolis on wednesday', in the second episode "love letters", milo tells mr. belding 'i think we have the best darn jr. high school in all of indianapolis", and in the third episode "wall street", nikki asks screech "if zack asked you to jump off the hoosier dome would you do that too?". as many of you already know, the hoosier dome is located in indianapolis, and indianapolis is the state capitol of indiana.. i remember these remarks clearly cuz they were the first time i'd heard anything about indiana, and i remember thinking "i thought they were in cali"..

Thanks for letting me know. Hey crakker_jakk, would you like to see Good Morning, Miss Bliss get released on DVD in a season set containing all 13 original episodes that ran on The Disney Channel along with the pilot episode that ran on NBC? All the season sets of Saved By The Bell are already released on DVD in season sets. We need Good Morning, Miss Bliss to get released on DVD to make our Saved By The Bell collection completed. I'm hoping someday that Good Morning, Miss Bliss will get released on DVD.

reply

yeah, it would be cool to see the pilot ep.. i've never seen the pilot and it would be cool to see how the show was with different actors and to see the original credits etc.. i dunno why they haven't released the gmmb season yet.. duzznt make sense, unless theyre worried about the plot holes established in the first season - them living in indiana, resulting in half the class, principal and school moving to california, etc., but that seems like a stupid reason not to release it cuz lotsa shows go thru changes after the first season - recasting, relocating, etc., so i can't imagine that would be the reason.. let's hope we see miss bliss released soon..

reply

Maybe they could redub some of the lines and release it as "Saved by the Bell- The Junior High Years" or whatever.

Maybe like this:

in the very first episode "summer love", zack's summer girlfriend karen tells him "you can take me to DISNEYLAND on wednesday', in the second episode "love letters", milo tells mr. belding 'i think we have the best darn jr. high school in all of CALIFORNIA", and in the third episode "wall street", nikki asks screech "if zack asked you to jump off the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE would you do that too?".

And about the schools looking similar, there are middle and high schools I've seen that are next door to each other and look virtually identical.

Along with these, I also remember in the episode where Miss Bliss was up for the award for "Teacher Of The Year" (or month, I can't remember), Mr. Belding says, "Is that Carrie Bliss, Indiana's teacher of the year". Something like that.

One more Indiana reference: In the "Stevie" episode, Stevie tells Miss Bliss that she's been accepted to Notre Dame. Although they don't specifically say Indiana, that's where Notre Dame is located.

In the episode where they fail at potato futures trading, or something, one of the girls asks if one of the others would jump off the Hoosier Dome or the Indianapolis Dome. It caught me off guard, because that statement would definitely be out of place in Bayside. Interestingly, Zach came back with another question about a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive or somewhere (which would not be a that-out-of-place comment in a middle-America school.)

reply

Machtyn- Zack also talks about the beach and Malibu in that same episode. I agree, it is a bit confusing.

Oooh, here's an idea!

Their parents worked for some company or factory that closed their Indianapolis offices, and moved all their employees to Pacific Palisades, CA. It works! The kids you like magically move to California, and then the ones you don't like eventually grow old and die in Indiana.

Of course, that doesn't explain Mr. Belding....

reply

Haha, that's a good explanation lol. Only the kids whose parents worked for that company moved to California and Mr. Belding's wife was CEO lol.

Tomorrow's just your future yesterday!

What about Lisa's parents? A doctor can move almost anywhere, but do they just up and move solely because some of their daughter's friends are moving as well? I don't know if Zach's father's job is mentioned, but it is established that he often uses a cell phone and goes on business trips. I think Screech's father is some sort of advanced scientist or researcher, and that he is hardly ever around. Only Screech's mom is shown.

Then you have Jesse's "lifelong" friendship with Zach, which doesn't match with the story. Nor does Kelly being subject of Zach's longtime crush. Maybe they were just not in Miss Bliss's classes in Indiana, but still moved. It then must be decided what business that was, that agrees with all the given parent profession data.

It is established that:
- Kelly has a dad that works in for a defense contractor. (loses his job when "world peace" breaks out).
- Zach has a dad that has a profession that requires very frequent trips and a cellphone.
- Lisa has doctor parents, who work at the hospital.
- Jesse has a dad that divorced her liberal activist mom and manages hotels in remote vacation spots (or Palm Springs was his only one).
- AC is said to be a complete stranger to the rest of the group before 10th (or was it 9th in the first season?) grade. His dad is in the military.
- Judging strictly by Screech's heredity and his dad's lack of presence, I'd imagine his dad is a grown-up geek working as a researcher or scientist somewhere. Maybe even an engineer.
- Belding is a principal who attended high school at Bayside, and has a slacker brother that sometimes served as a substitute, who probably never left California (not much in the way of white water rafting in relatively flat Indiana).

With that, I will make up a scenario that may work.
- Kelly's dad's defense contractor moves workers from Indiana to California for whatever reason. Maybe he left a year before everyone else.
- Zach's father served as a traveling representative for the contractor, but since Zach's friends were moving, he moved as well.
- Jesse's mom either works for the contractor, or has some job where she can move around. The divorce may have happened a year before the Miss Bliss year, due to the father leaving for California to work at a sunny desert resort hotel to chase young "bimbos". He may have won a settlement requiring Jesse to be close-by in California, so Jesse and her mom moved to Palisades (the mom didn't want to be too close to her ex).
- Screech's dad could be a researcher, engineer, or some scientifically-oriented employee of the defense contractor in need of high tech expertise.
- Lisa convinced her parents that moving to Calfornia would be better for her health, as well as a way to be close to her friends, while secretly wanting to be near the fashion mecca of Rodeo Drive. Also, one day a certain Leon Carosi came through Indiana to look into business ventures there. He fell ill and was rushed to the hospital where Lisa's parent's worked. After they treated him, he thanked them and offered them a summer membership in his beach club along the the Pacific Ocean. Putting all these into consideration, and noticing openings in a LA area hospital, they applied for positions and were accepted onto the staff.
- Belding, who had been constantly trying to work for his alma mater, finally found the opening he was looking for when his old principal stepped down. He found a house near his brother's slacker apartment by the beach. Rod was already subbing part time at Bayside and other area schools, so he lived close by.

- Nikki and Mikey did not have parents that were moved, and they could not convince them to move. Maybe they were just replacements in the group for Kelly and Jesse who had moved a year earlier (they were also absent in the Tori episodes, so this is pretty consistent with the show). They probably stayed in Indiana high schools and colleges for the rest of their education.
- Milo became new principal of JFK, and Miss Bliss stayed a teacher, while living in Indianapolis. She may have taken a trip to California to meet this lookalike that was starring in Disney movies from the 60s & 70s, but other than that she would have probably never seen the gang again.

Little to no holes, but highly implausible. Possible nonetheless.

That's interesting, I didn't know that about Zack's father. I guess it was all big coincidence that Zack, Screech, and Lisa moved to California along with Mr Belding. Perhaps this all transpired off screen well a lot did anyway. When Saved by the Bell started on NBC, were they freshman or sophmores? Did NBC air the GMMB episodes or was it just shown in syndicated repeats?

reply

Yea, in the first episode they mention Indiana in it, and also in the episode when Miss Bliss wins teacher of the state or something like that. But what I don't get is in one episode, i forget which one at the moment, Zack say, "I'm going to be the biggest joke in all of Rhode Island" and that brings up another question... they mention Rhode Island, Indiana and California as all the they are in. So what is going on lol

reply

Also, in every episode we see two big flags standing on either side of Miss Bliss' desk. One of course is the American flag. The other is the Indiana state flag. I lived in Indiana when Saved By the Bell was big, and whenever they'd "flashback to junior high," I wondered why half the cast lived in Indiana back in junior high.

We come into the world naked, screaming and covered in blood. Why should the fun end there?
