The ABC family programming block dubbed "Thank Goodness It’s Funny" launched in fall 1989 with Full House, Family Matters, Perfect Strangers and Just The Ten Of Us. “It was all about comedy. It was all about getting together,” former ABC producer Jim Janicek says of the programming block for Buzzfeed News' new show This Literally Happened! “It was all about sitting down and taking a load off for the week and laughing together.” TGIF would go on to outlive its original lineup thanks to Boy Meets World, Step by Step and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Man, Patrick Duffy looks rough in the pic in that article. Yikes!

I was all about the TGIF as a young kid! The shows were pretty awful, but I loved them just the same, haha.

Several of the TGIF shows also made it to Scandinavia, so I watched them in the 90s. Good times!

ABC could re-run the worst of "Step by Step" episodes and still get better ratings than Emergence.
