Looking for Frank's Place videos (or dvds!)

I will happily pay someone for copies of Frank's Place (the Tim Reid show from CBS). Has anyone got any? Please email me at [email protected] . Thanks! This show was sweet and funny and sad and smart and clever and I was blown away at how all around great it was, and I was so angry when it got cancelled, and other total crap was left on.

I'm looking for copies of the show, too! I hardly remember it from the 80's. I just know I loved it and felt it was the best show I'd ever seen. And I'd really like to see it again. I also want to give a copy to a friend! Are there any copies out there for those of us who'd like to buy one?

reply

Put me on the list - this was my all time favorite TV show!

reply

Is there anyone we can write to or call to ask that they put it on DVD?

reply

i unfortunately have no news for anyone, i would just like to also be contacted if anyone finds the show on DVD or VHS- my email is [email protected]
thanks!

reply

We too wish we could provide everyone on this list with a source for this memorable series. Please contact us as well if anyone finds a DVD or video source for the series. Here's hoping.......

reply

I have to have about six to eight episodes on tape but I have to dig them out (with my collection that could take about a week). Contact me at [email protected]

reply

I've got 16 of the 22 episodes which I taped when they were origianlly shown on CBS or syndicated on BET, and which I've now transferred to DVD. Quality varies from pretty good to pretty poor on a couple of episodes - don't ask me why. I can dupe the DVD's for the cost of disc, padded envelope, and postage (about $3 total).Contact me at my listed email if you want them.

reply

Hi:

I have 21 of the 22 episodes, and am only missing episode 13 (don't recall the title, but Frank visits Bubba's house at Christmas). I'd be happy to swap the ones you're missing for episode 13 if you have it.

-Steve Hambric

reply

Steve (sah19), if you still have the taped episodes from Frank's Place (minus 1), please email me ([email protected]. I would like you to make a copy for me. What's your price?

reply

I will glady pay u for those copies. Please contact me at [email protected]

reply

I'd love to get copies of those episodes, too. Could you contact me if you're interested--I'd pay, of course! [email protected]

Thanks!
Kevin

reply

Do you by any chance still have Frank's Place available? I will be happy to pay almost any price for them. I know what it means to miss New Orleans...this would be a balm for the wounds. Thanks,
Karen

reply

Peace and blessings,
Please let me know how to get a copy of your 21 epsodes.

reply

Hey does anyone know the episode in which Pam Grier appeared? What is it called?

reply

Don't know the name of the episode but I do have it on tape. And I do know Pam Grier's character's name is Neema Sharone.

reply

Ill take it... email me from here ... give me a price

reply

Hi Steve,

I realize your message re Frank's Place is a few years old by now, but my husband and I are really, really hoping that you still have DVD copies available for sale. Please contact me at [email protected]. I'm a native of NOLa but living in NC, and Frank's Place always made me feel like I was at home again. Funny thing is, my husband, who I met in NC, is a native of NY, and Frank's Place was one of his most favorite TV series, as well! Thanks!

Maggie

reply

Count me in on this too. Let me know how much and I'll take em. This is the Holy Grail of TV DVDs for me.

Man, I would so love to see this show again, Do you still have it? Is there any way to get copies? Why haven't they put it on DVD as wonderful as it was?!?

reply

If I can get video or dvd copies from anyone for Frank's Place, you can name your price! My father is still waiting (at 83 and in remission) and I would love to surprise him with episodes. It was our favorite show. Please email me at [email protected] and make a wonderful gentleman very happy.

I just emailed CBS--I wonder if we could get a campaign/petition together. The company could make a mint selling the series on DVD, if this discussion thread is any indication!

I sent an email to Daphne Reid (Tim's wife). Here is my email:

I can't tell you how many people that I talk to, or how many places I read where there are many, many people looking for DVDs of Frank's place. Will the show ever be released?

Here is her reply:

I will put you on the list with those other wonderful people. We’re working on it.

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in my love for what I consider the best show ever to appear on TV -- seriously (and I go back to the mid-1950's). I have about 20 of the episodes I recorded from BET but the quality is pretty crappy. I dragged them out recently after seeing Lisa Hamilton's film on Beah Richards, who gave what was possibly the most mesmerizing 5 minutes of performance in TV history in a Frank's Place episode (at the Chez, "They always treated us like ladies and gentlemen.")

Thanks for contacting Daphne, ed. I'll hold out for the DVD to update my collection.

reply

I was shocked when I ran across this ongoing dialog about one of my favorite show of all times. Periodically, I still go into mourning over the cancellation of this show. I used to beg friends & family to watch this show.

John & Steve Hambric!!! Did you two ever hook-up??? Is it possible that John now has all 22 episodes on dvd now???

John, is your price still $3.00 ???

Can you guys contact me here or on my email address [email protected] I'd love a copy. Thanx, in advance,

reply

I can't believe this! I have been looking for Frank's Place videos forever and now, with Katrina, I really am missing NO more than ever. Frank's place was the best series ever--too good for TV. I would gladly pay for this.
Please email me at [email protected]

reply

Hi:

This is Steve Hambric again, and I truly apologize for posting about having nearly all the episodes, and then not checking the board again for several months. I've collected all the email addresses I saw in the responses, and will send a blanket email to you shortly about how we can best share the episodes amongst ourselves, without getting sued by the evil Viacom corporation.

If there's anyone who didn't include their email address in previous postings, please do so now.

Also, I'm still missing episode 13 (Holiday episode), so if anyone has it, let me know and I can distribute the complete collection. I promise to check in periodically over the next few weeks.

Kim and I have been watching the show over the past few nights to try to ease the pain over what's happened to N.O. It seems to work, although the title song brings the tears out.

Howdy, I'm also interested in this show, even though I've never seen it.

It just sounds too good to miss out on and I really enjoy Tim Reid.

Could you e-mail me at [email protected].. but instead replace nospam.com with hotmail.com.

Thank you very much,
Jim.

I'd love a set as well. If you're still fulfilling orders, let me know. ([email protected])

In the post-Katrina environment, this would be a perfect time for the folks who own the rights to release the series and donate a chunk of the procedes to rebuilding New Orleans.

Hi Steve,

I will trade the holiday episode (if my taped copy is still in good shape from a BET broadcast circa 1991) for a copy of "King of Wall Street" either on VHS or DVD-R/RW.

reply

Steve;

Please contact me. I too am intereseted in obtaining all 22 episodes of Frank's Place on DVD. Does anyone know why Paramont/ Viacom refuses to release them.
You would think they would be happy to take our money.

reply

Could I please get copies of your episodes? F's P was truly a gem and one of a kind. My wife and I watched every episode and the show struck a cord deep deep down with both of us.

I know it's a pain in the A to make copies, but I'll pay whatever for your trouble. I wouldn't worry about the viacom suits, even they would probably find us not worth the trouble.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

A fan....

I have one episode, "Ed Chambers". I taped it off the air and converted it to DVD, no commercials. I would call it very good quality. Would like to build my collection by trading for another good quality episode. Email me.

Please add me to the list for DVD - wyrm.com at gmail.com.

Having spent summers at my grandma's in Nyawlins, the show got my interest when it appeared on CBS. The characters, the writing, and the performances by the actors, however, were what kept me coming back week after week. Miss Marie was so much like many of my relatives in her genuine warmth and love - I truly felt I had gone back home, if only for 30 minutes every week.

Too bad HBO and Showtime were not doing "made-for" series back then - Frank's Place would have been perfect (and would have already been on DVD).

reply

I really fell sorry for the U.S. in these situations, had this been shown in the U.K it would have had time to develop into a serious comedy no doubt, but American TV being dictated by advertisers and what they have to say meant this got cancelled cos the advertisers felt the demographic wasn't lucrative enough. well i guess they're sorry now as they could have made a mint off it.

reply

To those of you who didn't receive my direct email, or to those new to the thread, you can contact professor video (www.professorvideo.com) and arrange to trade something (other TV shows, blank recording media) for the complete set of Frank's Place episodes.

Let's all hope Viacom allows Tim and Daphne Reid the rights to the show so they can release it officially.

I didn't see any of this thread until today. I would like to receive your

GANG: please DO contact Professor Video (www.professorvideo.com);
he's on the up-and-up, and I arranged a swap with him for blank media.

Let Todd ([email protected]) know you're on
"Steve's discussion group" and he'll get back to you with details
-- it's a fair arrangement that he's made even more attractive
because SteveH traded him for some better-looking versions
of some episodes.

I have been looking for video/dvd of this show for YEARS! Thank-you, thnak-you, thank-you to all of you who are working to make this a reality! How is the quality on professor video's copies? Anyone seen them?

reply

Help! I just got here! What's the latest? I just spent a couple of hours reading all the messages and catching up. Okay, two and a half hours because OthoJNoggle had me rolling on the floor laughing for thirty minutes. I'm going to check out Professor Video right after I leave here but first I'd like to say a few things.
1.Steve Hambric you're the greatest! Could you loan me a dollar? I know you've got it 'cause you've been doing a brisk (and much appreciated) trade for the past few months! Seriously though, thanks for helping to keep a great and badly mistreated show alive.
2.The idea for using a portion of the profits from the sales of DVDs made from the master tapes to help New Orleans recover from the hurricane is the best thing I've heard in YEARS and who wants to bet that if it had been New York or Washington, D.C. or Hollywood that had been hit, that it would have been rebuilt all shiny and new by Christmas. You'd win that bet. Then you'd be hauled off to jail for gambling!
3.OthoJNoggle, man, you ain't right. Too Close For Comfort and Saved By The Bell...HA! Don't get me started! My ribs are still sore from laughing!
4.Finally, to everyone who posted: I don't know any of you but I know one thing about all of you; you've all got taste and class and I'm proud to have become aware of y'all. Stay in touch.
