Frank's Place Ideal Racial Show?

This show was featured in this documentary we saw in class on dealing with racism in TV programs called "Color Adjustment." It comments on how it dealt with the issues of a black family more realistically than any other show but yet was cancelled. Just though you'd like to know. The clip they showed in the documentary looked incredible. Tim Reid's character is so much better than the fathers he plays in current comedy sitcoms.

No it actully showed the real side of New Orleans. My best friend's family has a funeral home in New Orleans and some of the stories I could tell you wouldn't make it on TV. The Chez Helene is right around the corner from the funeral home. This is what "Frank's Place" is based on. It was one of the best Black sitcoms on CBS(What an I talking about it was the ONLY black sitcom on CBS)And like everything else it wasn't given enought time it one time slot to gather a strong following. It will take a long time before we get another show like it (Not in my lifetime)

I am desparately looking for a DVD collection of the episode's of "Frank's Place" that were aired. For my money, it was the absolute best, and funniest sitcom on television, and I've been around a while and seen many. If anyone out there knows of either VHS or DVD, please let me know. Thanks.

I have a handful of eps on video. Some in good condition, some not. Its a crime the show was dropped after one season and its disappointing its not on DVD. How can we start a petition?

CBS has carried many major black sitcoms. Every Norman Lear-produced sitcom has been aired on CBS (except "Sanford and Son"). Keep your eyes open man.

I felt like it transcended color. It was about real people, black and white, who loved each other.

A few years ago, I met a guy who had worked on the music--he was no longer in show business. He told me he'd worked on a "little-known show called Frank's Place." I told him it was my all-time favorite show.

Amen, Joannakathryn!

How can something like "Good Times" last for years, yet a funny, smart, thought provoking show like "Frank's Place" be canceled so quickly? IMHO, one of the best shows ever made.

I am white and I loved this show. I agree it wasn't given enough time. Many sitcoms die in their first season. it's the network's call. Cheers was almost cancelled early on.....I heard that seinfeld also had rating's problems early on....

anyhow, Tim Reid should be given another shot to come up with a sitcom. I think he's extremely talented and can come up with something as good as Frank's place again.

My Dad, God rest his soul, had a saying when he saw certain shows like “Frank’s Place” or “A Man Called Hawk” hit the airwaves:

It’s too good to stay on the air.

I would say your late father was 100% right in this case. This show could have become a classic if it had been given the chance it deserved.
