Does anybody remember whether or not Fortunes of War was originally a 12-hour series? What is available on DVD or tape is 6-7 hours long. My admittedly not-so-great memory says it was 12 hours. Anybody?

sharemoley75's answer is right about it being 7 episodes. I just wanted to add that if you have the vhs version released in the U.S. be aware that it is heavily edited. When I compared it to my fading copy taped off of 'Masterpiece Theatre" I found that 5-10 minutes were missing from each episode. They had also clipped off the opening and closing credits between episodes so you had to watch it like it was one long movie.
This was not the only British series to suffer this indignaty - The 'House of Cards' trilogy and 'Churchill; The Wilderness Years' spring to mind. I hope that there is a special place in the seventh level of hell for the marketing boneheads who saddled us with this situation. Fortunately, the dvd releases have these series have not done this!
The most important note I want to pass along is that the dvd release of this series is prices at $14.98. This is an incredible bargain as most British TV series of this length are priced from $30-$50 so, if you are a fan, buy it as quickly as possible lest they notice there mistake (maybe they are trying to get to move to the sixth level with this pricing).
I'll make a good Gordon, Gordon!
