anti-Semitic tones to Flintheart Glomgold?

A stereotype of dark-spirited, opportunist, greedy Jews: like Fagan in Oliver Twist?

I know both Scrooge & Flintheart are depicted as Scots... and not to mix classics, Dickens Scrooge is a Brit who is just as dark as Fagan.

Maybe I'm looking too deep into the meaning his first and last name.

I think you let your own bigotry shine through. My stepfather was Jewish and he loved Duck Tales, he could even mimic Donald's voice. What you did is you saw a last name with "Gold" in it and you made the Jewish connection even though there's no sign that he's Jewish.

Glomgold is from South Africa, but as it still had racial problems in the 80's; they made him Scott.

My last name is Golding, and apparently the most numerous Golding families are those from England, where the names has been used for many centuries. There are also less numerous Golding families from Ireland whose name is an English version of a Gaelic name, and apparently Jewish Goldings from Kuldiga in Latvia which used to be named Goldingen. I believe there is also a Goldingen in Switzerland.

I have no idea where my Golding ancestors came from.

Right. There was never any sign that Flintheart was Jewish, so why assume he was only because he was greedy?

reply

Wasn't he Scottish?

reply

I never really thought about it. Of course, as a child, I didn't know much about Jewish culture, how to identify them, or what antisemitism looked like. I just thought he was Scrooge's nemesis.
