Sinbad said he's considering leaving the cast of the highly rated "A Different World," where he plays the affable Walter Oakes. He said he'd like to produce and host a comedy variety show in the spirit of the original "Saturday Night Live" or Sid Caesar's "Your Show of Shows."

Sinbad said he's grateful that "A Different World" gave him some degree of fame but he's a bit bored with the Thursday night sitcom.

"I'd like to do more," he said. "It's a female-dominated show. The males are there to be the butts of jokes."

Onstage, Sinbad said he's crazy about everyday humor, the type of jokes told while hanging with friends and talking about life. His routines include bits about battles between the sexes, buppies ("black urban professionals"), rap music and grandmothers. He said about half of each show is improvised, or made up on the spot.

I'm like you wanting to know the truth of why he left. I've heard many different things, like what was posted by another. I've also heard he was at odds with producers over screen time.

Wish it would have been addressed in the TV One special.

At the time Sinbad's standup career was starting to take off. He was mentored by Bill Cosby and shortly after he left A Different World Sinbad had a very short-lived self titled sitcom.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.
