A Different World could've lasted a few more seasons if.....

So I've watched most of the seasons on Netflix and I have a few questions...... WHY DID THEY CHANGE THIS SHOW?? Season 2 and 3 WERE GREAT. The show was actually about college students in college trying to make it but then around Season 4, 5 and 6, it turned into the Whitley and Dwayne show and their supporting characters. WHY DID THEY DO THIS? I am seriously asking this. If any former producers or former actors from this show could answer, that would be wonderful.
What a great show with great characters and great actors. They could've developed the Lena James (Jada Pinkett), Charmaine and Gina into great characters. I have so many questions..........

Why did they hook up Ron and Freddie? WHY?
Why did Whitley change her voice after season 3, then went BACK to normal while dating the Senator but then went back to that high pitched voice for the last season.
Why is everything about sex during the last two seasons? I'm getting tired of seeing Freddie slob all over various characters and then Whitley and Dwayne constantly talking about sex. What happened to this show?????? IT HAD POTENTIAL.

I agree. I watch the show constantly on Amazon Prime. I definitely prefer Seasons 1-3. Those seasons were more collegiate and highlighted the HBCU experience.

It could have lasted longer IF THE WRITERS HAD NOT RUN OUT OF MATERIAL. There’s only so much to say about undergraduate college life. Look, without The Cosby Show, this thing would never have happened. It was an 80s NBC Must Flee TV filler show, like The Single Guy. It came on at the half-hour, when you were in the kitchen slipping a frozen pizza into the microwave. No one cared.
