A rating of 9 for episodes: 5,4,7

A rating of 8 for episodes: 2,8,9;

Episode 1 / A-

So depressing! Oh my God, I just wanted to cry at the end of it. I can't believe that the little kid died in the lake. Also, it was tough to understand what that first episode had to do with the 1st Commandment. I realized later that it was the whole idea of the father/son living their lives according to the computer, although that whole idea was still very, very vague to me. Reminded me of 2001 a lot.

Episode 2 / B

I didn't think this segment was anything special at all. It did feature beautiful cinematography, maybe the best of the series, but thats about it. No real story, and definitely not as emotionally involving or heartbreaking as the first segment. But it wasn't really bad either, hence the B grade.

Episode 3 / B

More interesting than the second one, but it didn't really go anywhere. The characters weren't very interesting, and the plot seemed pointless most of the time. But it was a very slight improvement over episode two.

Episode 4 / A-

Nearly flawless. Strange, unique, mysterious, with an absorbing story. I think once the big secret was revealed though, the film went downhill for a bit, going from unassuming and dark to some weird father/daughter soap opera. But the twist at the end was fu.ckin awesome!! It left me wondering what the truth really is, because by then, I was totally oblivious to what was going on, but thats also what made it so good.

Episode 5 / A-

Well, this is the exact episode I've been waiting for. Even though I still think the first episode is the best one of the first 5, and though I see this episode as one that is not flawless, I still think it was fantastic. "Thou shalt not kill", how appropriate.

Episode 6 / A

The best episode of the entire series. The first 40 minutes of it were absolutely superb, maybe the best 40 minutes I've ever seen in any kind of television series or film or otherwise. Of course I think because every episode must be 60 minutes long, that the last third of Decalogue Six was mostly just filler and would have been just perfect had it ended in the shocking bathroom scene. Maybe I enjoyed it so much because I'm around the age of the main character, somewhat inexperienced as he was, and it was just so painful to watch him, because it was almost like watching myself on screen. And that woman, omg, that... lustful, soulless older woman who just used him for her own amusement. Geez, this wasn't a movie. This was transcendent. Definition of genius.

Episode 7 / B

A good episode, but nothing more. I just didn't find the characters interesting, or the story compelling enough to hold my attention throughout. Plus, I thought the ending wasn't in correlation with the rest of the episode, if the young woman was so adamant about keeping her child, then why run away like that at the end, not even putting up a fight against her mother? Overall, following up what was the best part of the series proved too difficult of a task for Episode 7.

Episode 8 / B-

The worst of the 10 films. This one, weirdly enough, had the best opening out of all of them. The first 20 minutes were superb! But then after the revelation (which was obvious anyway) of the old teacher and the woman, I felt the story went absolutely nowhere. It was boring, and pointless, and had no resolution whatsoever. It had a great start though, just couldn't finish strong.

Episode 9 / B

I have mixed feelings about this episode. It wasn't very comprehensible at the beginning, because the filmmakers were very subtle and vague in laying out the plot and that led to some confusion. Not a standout installment, but it was certainly an improvement over the prior one.

Episode 10 / A-

Part 10 of the series was fantastic. Although, I've seen many people on IMDB incorrectly call it a black comedy. It wasn't such. Dr. Strangelove was a black comedy. Mash was a black comedy. Episode 10, however, was somewhat of a melodrama with a tragic ending. Speaking of the ending, I understand each episode is only 50-60 minutes long, but I was really hoping the two brothers would follow up on the two crooks who robbed them at the end. Either they couldn't prove it, which is why the episode ended shortly after, or because the alloted time just didn't allow for any more storylines. Either way, I really liked the episode. A great finale. The song at the end credits was really ironic and funny though!

The Decalogue / B+

Overall, its unfair to judge this series, because half of the episodes were brilliant, and the other half were just so-so. But averaged out, it comes out to be a great series of mini-films about subjects that have rarely been tackled in the past, and will be rarely tackled in the future.

I've just finished watching them, and have done so over a period of abour four months - not the best way to view this film, but it has allowed me to judge each as a short film in it's own right. Some of my ratings may look a little harsh, but the whole is more than the sum of the parts - as a series I'd give it an 8.

No. 6 was easily my favourite - a beautiful, achingly poignant little love story.

Just finished these...what a fantastic group of films. My order would be (from favorite to least):

5
1
6
10
2
4
8
3
9
7

Of course all of them are great though. And I have only seen them once, so that order may very well be tweaked with an additional viweing, but that is my order off the top of my head.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is No.8 which (after one viewing of all episodes) very much grabbed me, not that the other episodes didn't.

Overall, a fine artistic achievement: 10/10

1 = 9
2 = 10
10 = 9.5
9 = 10
3 = 8
4 = 10
6 = Ive only seen the full version and it was a 9.5 imo

Those are the only ones ive seen (I also owne A SHORT STORY ABOUT KILLING, which is one of the parts aswell, just a shorter version. I would give that a 9/10 for the full version aswell).
