DVD of Molly Dodd needed desperately

I moved to Puerto Rico in late 1986 and missed New York City in many ways. When Molly Dodd came out in 1987, I was delighted and started watching and taping the episodes religiously. I followed the series over to Lifetime and continued taping. After the show was canceled for good, I returned to those VHS tapes many times for a Blair Brown fix. Unfortunately, due to our damp tropical climate, my tapes are now all ruined with mold. I can't even play them any more because the mold messes up the VCR. I really would love it if the series came out on DVD. I'd buy it no matter what price was asked. It was one of the best written TV series ever and could get a whole new fan base if it were released on DVD.

I agree. If you look on Amazon, someone wrote that they spoke with Blair Brown about it,who said the problem was the music rights. The show used a lot of different music. Not sure it's accurate, just what I read. Finding ownership of the show's rights is even difficult. With all the totally obscure shows that have come out on DVD, surely we'll see this one some wonderful day. I hope so.

My fav line "How do you do your squid?" Still cracks me up...

Oops, just saw the same copyright info posted on this site. Should have read further.

Re DVDs. Thanks -- would love to have them, but got burned badly once on this sort of offer. Nothing against you, just pretty wary about this sort of thing.

I've been craving some Molly Dodd lately. I came here hoping they'd been released on DVD and I'd just missed it.

I had the opportunity to speak with Ms. Brown when I saw her in Lincoln Center's The Clean House a few years ago. It was wonderful to see her in the show. After the show I approached her and told her how much I loved Molly Dodd and wondered when it would be on DVD. She smiled and said that there are so many copyright restrictions with the music that they are having trouble making all license holders happy. She said when that happens, then they can make it happen. As you recall there is so much different music on the show. I hope they make it happen soon. One of my all time favorite TV shows!

I loved this show. Looking back it is so much more true to New York than shows like Sex in the City ever were.
Shame it isn't on DVD. I would buy this if it was released on DVD. They put out so many new shows that are terrible, why not release this?

I understand the music licensing issues - but that has been true for quite a few older shows.

I live in Tribeca and have all of the episodes on VHS. We should have a weekly 'Molly Dodd' viewing party, it would be fun!

Very much looking forward to seeing this series again, to make sure it really was possibly the best series of the 80s. Doing some searching and have discovered an Amazon page for the series DVD. You can elect to be notified of it's release, which I strongly recommend, since the more people that sign up the better, as it sends the message to the owners of the rights.
