Been done before in RED DAWN (1984)

The idea has been done before multiple times, I've seen it before in RED DAWN(1984) starring Patrick Swayze and C.Thomas Howell with Ben Johnson in a miserable role, Ron O'neal is terribly miscast, and the rest are sobbing for good story. Extremely dull and very depressing. The same here goes to Amerika.
Only one movie treated the soviet case fairly and politely with a comic and humanistic touch, that movie was "Moscow on the Hudson" starring Robin Williams.

Did you have a point in posting this?

You seem to forget that this was made during the last years of the Cold War. The Soviet Union was still very much the "enemy" of the United States, and a Soveit-led invasion of America was a posibilty, if highly unlikly. The Soviet Union was often shown as a threat.

But, you are right. This mini-series was long and boring. There was very little action, and what little action there was wasn't very entertaining. I doubt I could sit through the whole thing again. However, I did enjoy reading the novel.

I like both. But Red dawn shows the soviets as star wars like villans, except for the poor cuban. Amerika has more depth.
Samanov states plainly "We are not very good at running the world"
Bradford is sort of a parallel to Marshall Petain or the South African Homeland leaders, a well meaning man trying to avoid disaster.
Did any of you think the references to the Alaska problem were homage to red dawn, and another soviet take over novel dan moore's first strike
The best mini series I ever saw.
I often quote Andrei's line "Never Completely trust a man who will not get drunk with you."
As a wheelchair user, I can identify with poor Justin milford being experemented on. Power drunk doctors are all too real even today

The difference between Amerika and Red Dawn was that Amerika showed a country defeated before the Soviets ever showed up, with few exceptions we just rolled over and surrendered. Red Dawn was more realistic (I hope) in that, if it ever came to it, Americans would fight tooth and nail to resist domination.
