I saw a movie on TV as I kid and I haven't been able to figure out 100% what it was and think this might've been it.

Is this the movie where the family is trying to get out of the US and the daughter ends up joining some sort of cult on the way there and the mom's ex helps them escape to Canada?

If no, does anyone recognize that plotline? I saw this movie many years ago when I was quite young so I don't remember too many details only that the movie scared me. The only other thing I really remember is the family being reunited with the daughter near the end.

The movie you're thinking of is "The Fire Next Time," a made-for-TV movie released in 1993.
