this show lost me when...

1st episode. Depp gets assigned to the same school of the kid he just questioned about a break-in at his house. Depp brings up the obvious point to his captain "what happens when the kid ID's me and blow my cover?"
captain's response: "what? naaah."

wow. terrific argument, cap. i'm sold.

reply

It gets better. Sorry to sound like your mother when your first boyfriend/girlfriend breaks up with you but it does.

I had an issue with the original captain. I found him to be dirty, greasy and inattentive to the job at hand. he doesn't last long.

Reading the paper can really be depressing. Mr. Dithers fired Dagwood again.

I LIKED Jenko, it was Fuller I couldn't stand, too rigid, too 'professional', liked the way Jenko worked the Chapel better.

reply

I liked Jenko also. Was it planned that he only be there for a few episodes?

Also, I agree about Fuller. I couldn't stand him either. Way to full of himself right from the beginning also.

reply

The actor that played Jenko wasnt used to television since he was a film actor so he ended up quitting because it was too demanding.

reply

I probably would've liked Jenko if they didn't write him so badly. I understand that he was supposed to be some burnout relic from the 60s, but it was unnecessary practically every time he had dialogue to make reference to Hendrix or use dated 1960s slang. He came off cartoonish in that fashion. It got so annoying after awhile too.

When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth.

reply

thank you! that and the cleanliness. god, he was scuzzy and gross! less oil in the hair and more shampoo!

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

reply

I couldn't stand Fuller. He was too rigid, no sense of humor, and full of himself. At least Jenko could have fun and ease the tensions at times.

Yes, Fuller, they all knew *you* were in charge, and *that was your office now*. Ugh!

And did he really think he was above the law?

The episode when he got nailed for drunk driving - did he really think the law didn't or shouldn't apply to him? Above the limit is above the limit, no matter who you are.

I agree with you but in reality, a lot of Police officers/PO's family members really DO believe they are above the law.

My roommate in college's father was a police officer and she would constantly drove around with the seat reclined to almost a lying position and no seatbelt.

you'd think she'd be the cornerstone of good driving but no.

and this was way before it was gangsta and driving in 'the middle' of the car.

this was 1995.

in a way, I was glad they did this episode.... lets everyone know that the law SHOULDN'T be only for the lay people.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more. Edmund Blackadder.

Yes, I know that. I have dealt with those types of people. They also like to abuse the power, making threats against anyone who "crosses" them (doesn't give them their way just because they want their way).

reply

so it is good that the show did what they did. made fuller get in trouble for that. it gives some reality to the show.

IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK...

sorry but the detroit lean predates 1995 ,or as you put it driving in the middle of the car.dudes did that in the 70s and 80s.

spectre can

suck it.

but this was Bronxville ny.

But for a cop and for the superior of the chapel, Fuller could also be damn naive at times, the time he went on that talk show when Ioki was being investigated for knocking a girl up, he really didn't think that was going to come out? His 'junior' officers even mentioned the woman was a bit of a shark before he went on TV, he never saw it coming?

reply

I don't really remember that episode, I think I only saw it once. What was the season so I can look it up and watch again?

Overall, I just never liked Fuller.

reply

Season 2, and I never liked him either, I resented from day 1 that he replaced Jenko, Jenko was cool, he was fun, he was 'unprofessional' and still knew what he was doing.

reply

I totally agree with you. Jenko was the type of boss I'd like to have. He knew the job, did the job, but still knew how to have fun and be a human being. (I actually did work for a guy with that sort of personality, briefly. It was a "temp" job. I wish I had been able to stay permanently, or that he had actually remembered to call me back in.)

I also hated the send-off they gave him. Why not say he was killed in the line of duty? Or since the Catholic school was his last episode, say he never made it out of the building after he went in for Ioki and Hanson?

But it's Dustin talking about the show, and both Capts Jenko and Fuller, he tells some very good stories, and the Napalm story is hilarious...
