Sorry, I don't buy 28 year old Clint Howard as a Street Tuff

Just saying.

That's because he's not... he's the "tech geek", he's only in it so that he can design/build cars. I liken his character to that of Jessie (The Fast and the Furious).

I thought Nick Cassavetes looked too old to play the antagonist Packard.

The character was probably older than the typical high-school kid. I'm sure he was left back a few grades and now that he's out of school, he's got nothing better to do than hang around town and win/steal cars.

I don't know about too old but he definitely looked like a putz, not remotely intimidating. Maybe the film is just dated but I personally would've laughed in his face and told him to take a hike if I were Keri (Sherilyn Fenn).

Not remotely intimidating? Nick Cassavetes is 6'6.5". I'd like to see you try and tell him to take a hike tough guy.

I agree Packard was way too old to be hanging with such a young crowd & trying to pick up h.s. girls - Nick definitely looked his age in that flick (26 when it was filmed). But contrary to some opinions here, I thought there was something sexy about Packard (not his douchey gang leader personality though). I think his height was a definite turn on for me - I really dig tall men!

And I agree with the OP that Clint Howard wasn't believable as a tough gang member even if he was the geek in the group. And he also looked WAY older than 28 - he's one child star who aged REALLY badly.

reply

I thought all of them looked at least mid-20s.

reply

Of course he is. He is the toughest of them all.

reply

That's probably why he was the only one of the gang who had nothing to do with Jaime Hankin's murder.

reply

Think about it. He's the type those guys would beat the crap out of every day just for the hell of it. If he puts his tech genius to good use for their benefit, not only do they not whale on him, they protect him from others doing the same.

Did you watch the movie?

Howard played an old alien in Star Trek when he was only six or seven. He had to balance it out sometime. Besides, all american shows about school kids star 28 yo 'highschoool kids' with their attractive 33 yo 'parents.' That is Hollywood realism, mate.
