The audition rehearsal film

Back in the 1980s, there was a film by Akerman called either The Eighties or The Golden Eighties. It was shown at Film Forum.

The very long film detailed the preparation for the shooting of a musical set in a shopping mall. In the end, we saw one musical number.

This film seems to be the film that was being prepared....but the film I saw was maddening but I would love to track it down.

Anyone know anything about this?

It was called THE EIGHTIES. It has also been screened at the AMERICAN Museum of the Moving Image. The film was released on VHS (by World Artists) so copies are out there, somewhere.
