Classic tearjerker

Windaria is a beautiful and extremely poignant tale of love and war, a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions set in a totally imaginary world. The characters aren't the types of bigger than life heroes you find in other anime, but the kinds of normal people you could meet in real life. I'll admit, the animation wasn't all that impressive, nor were the character designs. In fact, this was the first anime film in which I actually paid more attention to the story than the animation. The somewhat cartoony character designs were a constant source of distraction in an otherwise very serious film. I know there are different styles for depicting characters in anime and manga so I think a slightly more realistic style would have made this film a lot more effective. But overall, a really great film. I just wish they hadn't edited anything out or changed the character names from the original Japanese version.

I remember watching it back in '87. Got a hold of it earlier last year, it made nearly a big an impression on me now, as it did back then. It was also the movie that truly got me interested in anime.

This was the first anime my mom and I watch together. Tearjerker to say the the least. "I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes."

That bridge scene in the forest is one of my favorite scenes in all of anime, with the sad music and the atmosphere... i love it so much.
