Cable TV version

Every once in a while, Comedy Central used to show a version of The Whoopee Boys that included scenes that were not on my VHS copy of the film. There was a scene in which "polo lessons" were taught on rocking horses at the charm school as well as a few extra scenes at the orphanage. Anyone else seen this version? Of course, this type of thing has happened to other films in the past-- Fast Times at Ridgemount High comes to mind, but I've always wondered how this footage manages to escape the version released to the home video market yet gets somehow gets inserted back into the film for cable. And you can bet that if Paramount does transfer this movie to DVD, there'll be no widescreen version and we won't get any special features or deleted scenes. If anything, we'll get a crummy transfer of the VHS version straight to disc, which any schmuck with time and the right computer equipment can do himself. Somehow, fans of this film are going to need to locate and contact the director of this movie and motivate him to put together a worthy Whoopee Boys DVD. Anyone know where to start?

I've seen this done, too. Many times a scene is too raw for television, so they substitute scenes that were left out of the film version that are more clean. Some times a director will film scenes in different ways becaue they know a movie may eventually make it to television. I first saw the movie Sixteen Candles on VHS. When I saw it again on cable it blew me away that all the background music was different. Whoopee Boys has got to be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. When my brothers and I first watched it when it first came out on VHS we laughed so hard we were crying and had to keep backing it up to catch the stuff we were missing. I'm very surprised more people aren't aware of this movie. My wife never heard of it and still hasn't watched it all the way through with me. When I need a good laugh, Whoopee Boys comes out of the closet, but I've been waiting for a DVD version, with lots of extras, for a long time.

Yeah, why the hell isn't it more known? It's so freakin' funny and it's easily probably one of the funniest movies ever made. It REALLY deserves to be on DVD and of course with extra stuff on it, too, not just the movie. What happened in the part that shows them playing polo?

If they ever do get around to releasing this laughfest on DVD, I hope they will include the scenes you mentioned as extras.

Also, I'm willing to bet that there was a TON of improv footage with Paul Rodriguez (an outtake appears @ the end of the credits)! Hopefully they can put a bunch of that stuff on the DVD too. *fingers crossed*
