Assateague Island?

Has the scene within the first 7 minutes really been filmed on Assateague Island? I once visited Chincoteague Island, but was under the impression that tourists were not allowed to come to Assateague because of the wild horses.
Does anybody know?

In the 70's you could drive across to Assateague and see the ponies from the road. My family vacationed there often, camped out at Tom's Cove. I miss that place and I'm afraid to see how much it has changed.:(

While watching my copy of VIOLETS ARE BLUE, I came across these posts. According to Wikipedia, Assateague Island was made a National Seashore Park in 1965. It remains a protected wild-land, and the horses are still there. Thank goodness.
