Love for Sale was pretty clever. The lazy woman was watching TV and it came on and she was commenting on it. That added interest, along with motivating the scene.
It always amazes me how those strangely-themed, seemingly spontaneous production numbers seem to fit into their movies; like in the "Blues Brothers", "Pennies from Heaven" (1981), "Chicago", "Moulin Rouge" and of course "True Stories". There's a real genius to it, even though it's made to look easy and natural. And musicals of that caliber are rare.
