Isn't this based on a true story, 'Murphy's Boy'?

I read somewhere that this movie was based on the book "Murphy's Boy" which was written by Torey Hayden. I love her books and want to see this (the plot sounds very similar) but don't know where to find it. Is it available on DVD? I have to use friends computers which are olllllld so downloading torrents off the net isnt an option. Thanks.

Yes, it's based on Torey hayden's book, Murphy's Boy, which is a true story. The movie is good, but I think the book is much better.

I just bought this DVD off of Amazon for $4.00 shipped.
