Plot Hole or no Plot Hole - this bit is odd

I didn't get to see the one (now deleted) reply to my tagged-on question in the plot hole thread. So what the heck.. here is a brand new thread.

Just explain to me, in convincing enough detail why Unicron pops Galvatron into his mouth - complete with Matrix - when he could have done anything else like, say crushed galvatron and flung the matrix into a sun somewhere nearby??

I look forward to being challenged by someone even more obsessed with this movie than myself!

reply

I always wondered this myself, I think maybe Unicron wanted to isolate the Matrix inside of him self so he always knows where it is, but it backfired on him.

reply

Unicron was hungry, nom nom nom

It is the year 2005. The Decepticons have conquered the Autobots home planet of Cybertron.

NO plot hole at all. Its simple, by swallowing it, he knew EXACTLY where it was at. What good was it to Galvatron? He didn't have the means to open it, and he had had no way of forseeing autobots running around inside of him. Remember, Unicron was around for millions of years, munching planets, nothing stood in his way, so why would he think now that he could be attacked from within???

"...insert corny quote here"

reply

Hmmm you almost convinced me, but Unicron really dropped the ball by forgetting to spy on the autobots like he did earlier (the scene of prime passing the matrix on), whereby they have ships big enough to threaten him. The movie just does not explain enough about why he needs to destroy the matrix, and more to the point why he needs someone ELSE to do it for him. I'm not complaining mind, as the scenes inside Unicron are the best bit of the film for me and left the strongest impression on me as a little kid.

reply

If Unicron has been around for that, wouldn't the transformers have seen him at some point in space?

reply

I always figured Unicron swallowed Galvitron and the Matrix of Leadership because he has a processing plant inside him where other robots (and in Spike Witwicky's case, humans) are carried and dropped into vats or magma. I figured Unicron was attempting to destroy the Matrix using the vats and remove the unruly Galvatron at the same time, but Galvatron just avoided that fate.

I assume the vats of magma either provide an alternate energy source for Unicron, or he uses the melted Transformers to add metal to his structure, making him stronger and larger.

I assume he wanted to put Galvatron somewhere out of the way, since Galvatron did turn on him. Unicron probably figured the Matrix would be out of Autobot hands, of course until they crashed through his eye. Or maybe he just forgot. LOL

Yeah, maybe despite fancy language like "I find your bargaining posture highly dubious", old Uni was just a bit thick. :)

reply

2 decent explanations...

1. Uni is a bit overconfident so he swallows Galvitron to kinda keep him out of the way while he enjoyed destroying Cybertron,

2. He figures I can't destroy the matrix, I'll hide it inside me so no Autobot can get too it.

I'd also add I don't think Uni can destroy the matrix without it resulting in his demise so he needs someone else to do it.

''for a time,I had considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron, now, you shall witness, its dismemberment.''

That phrase answers why he didn't kill Galvatron. Galvatron couldn't open the matrix,he had the matrix and was in Unicron's chest,Unicron probably thought he was safe. ''It'll do you no good autobot,it cannot be opened.''

reply

This is absolutely not a plot hole and the explanation is very simple. Unicron's goal throughout the entire movies is to destroy the one thing that can destroy him, The Autobot Matrix of leadership. So how does Unicron typically go about destroying things? He consumes (eats) them. We see him destroy several planets and moons using this method and we know that any robots who happen to be on those planets are by some means transported to a devices that one by one drops them into a pit of acid. The scene where Unicron eats Galavatron and The Matrix is the first time Unicron has ever had the Matrix is his grasp so he intends destroy it through the same method by which he destroys everything else. Obviously he intended Galvatron along with the Matrix to suffer the same fate as every other robot he's ever consumed, but he mades one fatal mistake, he underestimated Megatron.

he destroyed things planet mode not robot mode

He figured his digestive juices would take care of it and it would get um... expelled out as robo poop?

It's obvious, he has extremely good internal defensive systems, i.e. his digestion system. He simply underestimated Galvatron's power that's all. No plot hole.

I have watched and thought this since I was I years old I'm now 42 and still can't understand why unicron didn't just flick galvateon with matrix on his neck across the solar system to never be found again.

reply

Because he didn't want the Matrix out there in the universe somewhere.

Let's be bad guys.
