I tried to rewatch this today but found it boring. There are a lot of films from the ‘80s which are still fun to rewatch — Die Hard, Back to the Future, The Karate Kid. But this one not so much. There isn’t much of a story and the characters are superficial.

Oh yes it's very dated in some respects now (all men flying--the only women are eye candy and wives) Am curious to see how instructor Maverick deals with a coed school in 2021.

Top Gun is a stone-cold classic and I hope the sequel will be as well.
Pure foolishness. I've watched Top Gun several times in the past few years and it is pure awesomness.
It has a great cast, cool jets, cool flying sequences, fun characters and it hits some genuinely emotional beats with Goose's death.
Top Gun is an amazing film and always will be.
