Impressive, mesmerizing movie.
I had read something about Therese, and I see that almost every little scene is based on real events. But I don't recall any nun ressembling sister Lucy, the one who was obssesed with her and left the convent before her death. Is this a completely fictional character ?
in all the books and pictures i've read, i recall no such sister in reality.
shareThe character sr. Lucie, is propably based on sr. Marie of St Joseph, a very difficult sister to whom Thérèse was very kind to. Nobody wanted to work with her, but Thérèse asked the prioress after the elections of 1896 to be able to work with this sister in the linnen room.Sr. Marie of St Joseph was very attached to Thérèse, very very sad when the latter was dying, and there are letters conserved that the Saint wrote to this sister to console her.
The situation with sr. Marie of St Joseph was too difficult that she had to leave the convent in 1909, 12 years after the death of Thérèse, due to her mental illness. She led a life as close as a carmelite nun's life but outside the walls.
