VHS ending

Does anyone remember this?

The open matte VHS final shot with the cars flying by was really cool and effective, imo.

agree, I much prefer the old VHS ending with cars going by, blissfully ignorant of the insanity happening nearby.

I always thought it a cruel joke how the world just keeps moving whether we're crying or hurt and is indifferent to our suffering...(heavy I know! :) )

I know the shot you mean, but I own the Elite Special Edition VHS, and the shot was cut out. :(

Was the Media VHS the one with that shot?

Yes.

The whole film offers a lot of visual real estate matted out of the intended aspect ratio, which is why I've hung onto my original MGM DVD; it offered a 4:3 version opposite the 1.85:1 on a flipper disc.

I'm getting the blu-ray for a steal, but I've gotten used to seeing more of the original camera negative on the vertical, much of which flatters Stretch (my favorite).

Not sure if the highway footage in the final shot is visible in this edition, but I'll take a look and report back. [update: it's not. I'm guessing they had enough room in the negative to pan up until the highway was out of frame, or digitally removed it...]
