I like this more than the original

Am I the only one who prefers the 2nd one over the 1st one?

reply

No, you are not.

I prefer this one too.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

I actually think the first and second film are equal. They're both very different but both wonderful for what they are.

Despite being somewhat different, these two feel almost the same in someway. The humor of course is amped up in this one, though they still fit like a puzzle piece due to Jim Siedow carrying over the hilarious cook character and Bill Moseley channeling his Hitch-hiker brother's unnerving feel from the original. The chemistry between the three flows seamlessly.

The rest of the sequels pale in comparison and feel like they are trying too hard. It always surprises me that the rating on this one is so low.

For a long time I would say I liked 1 more, but I was just lying to myself. 2 is the one I watch the most.

They're both classics and perfect films, in my eyes, but if I had to choose one over the other I would pick TCM 2. It's mainstream and the type of movie I can easily watch at any time. Fun, silly; a perfect "popcorn" movie. The original is a guerilla filmmaking nightmare on celluloid, and thus, for me, just not the kind of movie I can pop in at any time.

But as I said, both really are perfect, despite being so different.

God giveth and the DMV taketh away!

You're all more deranged than the Sawyer family.

It's masterpiece vs. mess and you choose the mess? HOW?!

I really love TCM 2, to me it's one of the classic Horror sequels (along with Evil Dead 2). The script is great and very well written, it has action, fun, romance and tons of blood and guts... all these elements put through the meat grinder to form a wonderfully f.cked up movie.

It's like Chop top took bad acid in NAM and now we see the world through his fry-brained, psychopathic mind. It's just so so sick and yet wholly engrossing.

Such a shame though that Cannon didn't trust Hoopers instincts, feeling the need to meddle during production. I think Lefties attempted suicide scene would've fit the movie very well, fleshing out his character more, as well as the chopped sub-plot between him and Stretch.

All in all it's still hugely enjoyable and earns an easy 8/10 from me.

The first is the better horror film as it's approach is much more serious.

I could see people preferring this one as it's gorier and funnier. The soundtrack kicks ass too by the way.

reply

I like both, but they're two different beasts.

The original is a masterpiece. It's a true horror and it can be uneasy to watch again depending on your mood.

The sequel is more digestible for rewatching due to its humor, gore, and horror elements. I find its fun aspect to be better for rewatching. It's the lesser horror film, but its a fun movie.

I prefer to rewatch #2 more, but that's only because #1 Is unnerving.
