Were George and Gracie...

...the last remaining humpback whales?

When Kirk and company went into the past to get them, they were not the only hump back whales. But, once they were transported to the future they were . . . just George and Gracie and the baby whale they were expecting, since Gracie was pregnant.

Shades of Shem, Ham and Japheth!

Who was the baby Humpback going to mate with?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

I kind of though of that, if the species is to survive they have to find a way to get at least another pair of Whales to breed more Whales for George and Gracie's offspring to breed with.

I alwawys assumed that after George and Gracie were relocated to the 23rd century and after the evvents of the film, a clone was made of their offspring so that the species repopulation could begin. Gillian would have been a huge part of this process, being the only person with firsthand experience dealing with that species of cetacean life.

No, but the way they focused on those whales almost made it seem like they were. When they first arrive in the past Uhura says they're picking up whale song and Kirk says to home in on the strongest signal, which happens to be George and Gracie. Later on after he tells Gillian what his mission really is he says he'll go to open sea to get some if needed but he'd just assume have hers. I guess because Gracie is pregnant and that way Gillian won't have to worry about "her whales" being hunted.

They were a married comedy team with a hit show in the 1950s.
