Missing Dead Kid

He had been missing for a few days and no officials or family members bothered to find him? It's not like his body was 5 miles in the woods off the beaten path. They could see his body from the train tracks.

Interesting point. Even if the line was primarily for freight trains, you’d think conductors and engineers would have eyes peeled at intersections with roads.

reply

It was the 1950s, they wouldn't give a toss for casualties of trains back then.

reply

Life was cheap back then.

reply

In the '50s they were still using orphans to test train wheels.

reply

In real life he probably would have been found pretty quick..however, a perfect storm of circumstances could happen, especially back then.

But his family and police were looking for him, we hear on the radio how the search has been extended to more towns and more parts of the county. so they were looking for him!

it's a lot easier to find something when you're told where it is, vern heard where he was. so they went there and found him. do you remember what castle rock is like? it's a small town and around it there is countryside and forest. he had been missing for a couple of days, a small town with a small police force?

it's hardly shocking that it could take more than 2 or 3 days to find the body. plus at the 2 or 3 day mark you're not thinking about the kid being dead, you're thinking more about a runaway type scenario. especially in a sleepy town in oregon.

reply

does charlie hogan and verns brother not say authorities are looking wrong place?!

but yes irl they find kids body fast. they have cadaver dog.

i think they call this "plot devise"??. it is reason for plot to happen even though it not realism. we do not have movie if other people do not find body.

reply

but it is realistic, the 1950s were a different time, kids had a lot more freedom because it was so safe, and without videogames, internet... kids spent most of their time outdoors. today a kid goes missing and it's shock he went out in the first place.

So kids spent more time outside, and living in such a rural place like oregan it would be even safer and making things like hikes, fishing and outdoor life more common. therefore not seeming so strange to have your child outdoors and not home.

why need cadaver dogs when you don't know the kid is dead? and their noses only work if you're in the immediate area... and 48-72 hours after the kid went missing? you'd be thinking more about him being a runaway than him being dead.

Castle rock is a sleepy oregon town during the 1950s, 1. you're not going assume the kid has died only 2 or 3 days after he went missing, and 2. it's got a small police force for a town of a 1000 people thats surrounded by countryside, forest and a giant river.... they had a lot of places to look.

not exactly strange they hadn't found him after 48-72 hours.
